Yes. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) strives to reduce loss of life and property and protect our nation’s critical infrastructure from all types of hazards through a comprehensive, risk-based, emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. They set guidelines and specifications for building shelters both in FEMA 320 and FEMA P361. There are also NSSA ICC 500-2020 guidelines and specifications. We build to exceed all of these standards.

6×6, 6×8, 6×10, 6×12, or custom built to your specifications. We custom build most shelters so size is dependent on your needs. We provide shelter for 2 people in a residence to several hundred people in a group.
Through the wall or roof, depending on type of shelter and passive ventilation around the door. The door is not air tight.
Steel shelters can be installed in as little as one day. Concrete and in-house safe room shelters can be installed in as little as one week, depending on the size and specifications.
An on-site inspection is necessary to evaluate possible obstacles. Some conditions that may have to be considered are bedrock, high water table, underground lines, and frozen ground. Obviously there are may be phone, water, gas, electric or sewer lines that may have to be considered. We will work with you to ensure safe placement of the shelter. Prior to digging, all locations are called in to Kansas Dig Safe for location of major lines.
Benches can be included, and an inlet to run power into the shelter can also be provided. In some shelters both electric lights as well as battery backup lighting is provided, as well as LED Dusk to Dawn exterior lights. Receptacles can also be included for plugins for personal devices. Group shelters can include HVAC and bathrooms.
For an underground shelter, 10′ opening is the minimum for the excavator and normally need at least 2′ larger than the shelter you choose.

There is no such thing as FEMA “approved.” FEMA approves nothing. However, FEMA does give specifications and YES, our Tornado Shelters are rated to meet FEMA’s specifications found in FEMA 361, FEMA 320 and NSSA (National Storm Shelter Association) 500 2020. We build to ALL these standards.
